Philanthropy

The SDG Philanthropy Platform

Background

The SDG Philanthropy Platform is a global initiative that connects philanthropy with knowledge and networks that can deepen collaboration, leverage resources and sustain impact, driving SDG delivery within national development planning. It is a global facilitator that helps partners optimize their resources by enabling effective collaboration with the broader development ecosystem in countries.

The Platform is a collaboration between philanthropy and the greater international development community, led by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors and Foundation Center, and supported by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, Ford Foundation, The MasterCard Foundation, Brach Family Charitable Foundation, and UN Foundation.

Country-level pilots for philanthropic collaboration with local partners have been developed in Kenya, Colombia, Indonesia, Ghana, the US, Zambia, India, and Brazil with more countries in the pipeline.

Broad aims of the platform

The broad aims of this platform are to:
Strengthen the engagement and role of philanthropic organisations in the realisation of the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030;
Deepen partnerships between governments, philanthropy and other stakeholders; and
Increase understanding of philanthropy's potential added value to planning, implementation and monitoring of the SDGs.
In-country, each platform has a thematic area of focus.
